Background and History. Simpson Memorial Home, Inc. began in West Liberty with the Simpson Memorial Home. It was established by the bequest of Mrs. Nora Simpson and was dedicated in June 1975. In 1993, the Melick Room, a large community/activity room was added with a bequest from Helen Melick and family. In the early 1990’s Heath Manor Independent Retirement Apartments were added with the support of John and Edith Heath. In 1997 additional units were added by a memorial gift from Alberta Metcalf Kelly and Genevieve Arnold. In 2000, nine assisted living apartments were added to the complex to complete the continuum of care at the West Liberty campus. In the spring of 2002 the Wilton Retirement Facility was purchased. With a generous donation from Leland Smith in May of 2003 we broke ground to build the Leland Smith Assisted Living Residences. This gift also allowed us to purchase additional land and future plans include building independent living options and a new full care facility. Simpson Memorial Home, Inc. captures both campuses, each type of facility is unique and special with their own names and identities. Since we are a not-for-profit entity our facilities would not have been possible without the generous donations of many individuals. |
